Venue

The venue of the workshop is the lovely Märchen Bellevue Hotel (http://www.maerchenhotel.ch/index.php?setLang=2) in the spectacular village of Braunwald, Switzerland. Situated 1256 m above sea level, in the heart of the Canton Glarus, where Zwicky spent his early years, Braunwald is a car-free village that can be reached with a spectacularly steep cable-train. Its mountain surroundings are simply awesome.

Getting There

Arriving by plane:

We will have a Welcome Desk at Arrival 1 where participants can pick up their train ticket. The Welcome Desk will be located on the right-hand side after the baggage pick-up area. Participants arriving in Arrival 2 will need to follow the signs to Arrival 1.

Your train ticket will cover your entire journey from the Zurich International Airport to Braunwald. There are several ways to get to Braunwald from the airport (as detailed on the SBB site: http://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html from "Zurich Airp." to "Braunwald"). If you need help, there is an SBB information counter at the airport where all the staff speak English. Below is the easiest route, but keep in mind that the S25 only runs once an hour:

1. Take any train to "Zurich HB" (Hauptbahnhof, i.e., the main station). These are very frequent. Check the monitors to see which "Gleis" (platform) the next train leaves from. The ride is about 10-15 minutes long.
2. Once at Zurich HB, take S25 (which usually leaves from Gleis 6 - check the monitors to make sure). Get off at "Linthal Braunwaldbahn". This part of the journey takes about 1.5 hours.
3. At Linthal Braunwaldbahn, take the funicular cable car to the top of the mountain. The last funicular leaves at 23:55. To get on, you must show your train ticket at the counter and they will give you a magnetic pass that lets you go through the turnstile. A member of the LOC will be stationed here to inform the hotel of your arrival. On the funicular, there is a special car at the bottom end for luggage. The ride up the mountain takes 7 minutes. At the top, shuttles from the hotel will be waiting for you to take you to the hotel.

Arriving by car:

There is an open-air and covered car park next to the valley station. The covered ones can be reserved in advance and I would be happy to make a reservation for you. The parking costs are:

- open-air parking area: 1 day CHF 5.00 / each additional day CHF 3.00
- covered parking area: 1 day CHF 10.00 / 1 week CHF 50.00
